Who
I am a humanistic counsellor and psychotherapist. I believe that all of us are fundamentally ok and that we each have an innate desire for growth and health. While Gestalt therapy and Formative psychology form the roots of my training, the core of my work is compassionate self-awareness. In practice this means that I take a down to earth, present-oriented approach. I believe that we shape our experience by how we form and hold ourselves physically as well as by what we think. I am interested in the bigger picture – the meaning we give to our lives – and also the fine detail of what we are experiencing right now. I care deeply about dignity and integrity.
I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and I abide by the its code of ethics. I am committed to respecting difference and will do my best not to discriminate on grounds of class, disability, gender, race or sexual orientation. I hold professional indemnity insurance.
I trained at Spectrum Psychotherapy, which was, at the time, a long-established centre for humanistic psychology in London and a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. I have subsequently completed specialised training in working with couples; working somatically with people suffering from trauma; working as a supervisor for other psychotherapists and counsellor. I am now also an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner, a Pesso Boyden therapist, and an Internal Family Systems therapist. I continue my professional and personal development through ongoing therapy, training and education.
I began working as a counsellor in a Sure Start centre, working with parents of young children. I then worked for Suffolk MIND and for Mentis Tree, seeing NHS clients and I started my private practice in 2010. From 2017 to 2021 I also worked one day a week for Petals Charity, the baby loss counselling charity, first counselling bereaved and traumatised parents, and then supporting other Petas Counsellors in their own work. I now work entirely in private practice in central Ipswich and online.
